Analysis of the Specific Habitats and Their Conservation Measures on Slopeland
Because of special geology, special soil, or sediment disaster areas of slopeland in Taiwan, the surface soil erosion is more serious and the vegetation coverage is little that the conservation and management as well as vegetation recovery are therefore more important. The long-term abuse of slopeland also results in decreasing productivity and degrading habitat environments. The planning and strategies for the conservation and management of special habitat environments therefore require further exploration and analyses. Following the investigation in the first year, including large-scale sediment disaster areas, creek improvement areas, mudstone areas, and steep slope agricultural land, the investigation of present vegetation situations and the evaluation of ecological habitat environment are proceeded in the second year. The investigation in the two years allows realizing the vegetation succession in the locations with the management engineering and the following succession trend.
Aiming at the grass-covered land and the tree-island areas with reserved trees on the landslide area above Chungsulo Bridge, various phases of image digitalization analysis, soil seed database, and quantity distribution of tree varieties are investigated to understand the expansion system of the vegetation on the tree-island and the following succession trend. It is expected to discuss the function of existing trees for the vegetation recovery of forestation on landslide and the grass competitive succession change, being the reference of the conservation of existing trees on landslide slope and the introduction of relative vegetation species. Furthermore, present conservation and management engineering practice for distinct special habitat environments are explained in this year. The investigation data are organized to discuss the conservation and management strategies for various special habitat environments and proposed applicable management engineering and suitable plant species for the reference of relevant units.
During the program processing period, an indoor educational training of the conservation engineering of agriculture land and mudstone areas, ecological environments in special land, and the points of vegetation recovery was held in the lecture hall of Mudstone Disaster Prevention Center in Department of Soil and Water Conservation, National Chung Hsing University on October 2, 2013. An outdoor education training of the conservation and management engineering applicable to mudstone areas and the field vegetation types was held in Neopu Mudstone Area Soil and Water Conservation Park in Tainan on October 3, 2013.
